Refugees Gathering. Kim San is a Khmer Rouge survivor, and educator. After fleeing the Khmer Rouge genocide in his early teens, he spent many years living with his widowed mother and his older brothers in Khao-I-Dang Refugee Camp in Thailand where he was able to learn how to paint from a rare surviving Cambodian artist. Because of his disability from polio he was not sent to fight in Cambodia's civil war of the 1990s, enabling him to pursue his fine art career which led him to Phnom Penh, and his current home of Siem Reap. Cambodian Noodles. Rith was born in 1986 in Kampot Province and spent his childhood watching the Buddhist temple painters inside his local pagoda. His fascination with their craft inspired him to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. He has created a successful career with his watercolors, mainly by painting the ancient temples of Angkor Wat and selling to tourists in Siem Reap. Lee Davignon and Megan Prince rework textile and plastic into sculpture and installations. Prince invites visitors to knot a mass of reused textile while she attempts to unknot it and remake it into a sculpture. This participatory, durational performance echoes the frustration and reward of working with others. Davignon, a weaver by training, unmakes material while keeping its history of use. They unwind marine rope, ball hair, break up plastic packaging, and then they reweave or resculpt it until it is almost unrecognizable. They model how art-making ought to be aware of its material history and material future. Choi’s field of artificial grass above glowing LED lights waves in response to visitors. The phrase “touch grass” comes from online culture; a gamer might say to a friend who’s been online too much, “You’d better go outside and touch grass.” Developed in 2023 for the fair, the installation expresses Seattle’s culture: at once obsessed with ‘nature’ and yet insulated by technology. Eunsun Choi is a multidisciplinary, conceptual artist based in Seattle, New York and Seoul. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Washington in the DxArts Department. Born in South Korea, She is recently a graduate of the Hunter College MFA program. Her work takes many forms about focuses on her efforts to negotiate everyday reality and fit into her adopted American culture. She attended the School for Poetic Computation(SFPC) in spring 2018. She is part of collaborative team, Jeju Island Artist Collective. Her project "Radical Self Care for the Age of Ultra Anxiety," funded by Queens Council Arts and New York Corps. She received Sculpture Space Residency program in 2022. Knitting in Solidarity is the project of LA-based artist Connor Walden. He first crafted shawls in 2019. In 2023, shootings in Buffalo, Ulvade, Tulsa, St. Louis — and so many more — moved him to create a new collection of shawls. Participants will knit a 6x6” square that the gallery will send to Walden who will sew the squares into a shawl and gift it to the communities who have experienced loss.
