Organized into three chronological themes, Synchrony, Continuance, and Sequentiality, ( ((elapse)) ) considers an embodied experience of time through video, sculpture, and text-based works. Working bicoastally, (Oceanin Olympia, WA and Lauren in Long Island, NY) the collaborative pair considers weather patterns, bodily ephemera and disability to uncover varying perceptions of entropy and the fleshly/enfleshed passage of time.
Lauren Ruiz is a Latina research-based multimedia artist based in New York. She has presented her research projects at the Latvian National Museum of Art, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, the College Art Associ- ation Conference, and the Association for Art History Conference. Ruiz has completed residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute, Vermont Studio Center, Art Ayatana, and the Guerrilla Science ArtSci Residency. She is represented by Marquee Projects in Bellport, NY. @laurenruiz_art
Ocean is a disabled poet and novelist living in the Pacific Northwest. His poetry, essays and fiction have appeared in numerous literary magazines; he has received a Whiting Foundation Grant, a MacArthur Foundation Sponsored Residency, and other awards; and attended residencies at Yaddo, The Headlands Center for the Arts, and others.
