Reception and Durational Performance begins Nov 7
Ibidem is a solo exhibition by víctor yáñez-lazcano. The project centers around a durational performance that will take place for the entirety of the exhibition. This performance occurs inside a room within a room that will be activated by yáñez-lazcano and BIPOC guest performance artists. The exhibition also features a series of minimal photographic assemblages titled the sky is falling comprised of discarded images whose primary content has been removed leaving behind a collection of disparate skies. The work emerged from yáñez-lazcano growing awareness of the direct impacts social conditioning had on his self-advocacy and his experiences with intimacy.
yáñez-lazcano’s interdisciplinary research chronicles his family’s history in the U.S. as it transitions from immigrants to first-, second-, and third-generation Mexican Americans. He explores the complexities of identity and assimilation at the intersection of race, language, class, and labor. yáñez-lazcano is Assistant Professor, Photo/Media + New Genres in the University of Washington Art Department.
