and then… brings together two projects born of a place between writing and visual work. 87 Lessons from the Peregrine and Under Blue Stones are the artifacts of Ruth’s process of mapping a book by J.A. Baker and Sjon. They have become her guides as she expands into a writing practice.
and then… also includes conversation is the medium, two conversations held at the gallery between the artist, invited guests and visitors. These conversations on the place between different creative practices: poetry and cooking, music and writing, gardening and making... Conversations will be documented in on-the-spot drawings by artist and writer Molly Schaffer.

Ruth Marie Tomlinson is a maker and writer interested in the place between these two creative practices. She splits her time between Seattle, WA and Two Dot, MT.
Jane Wong is the author of the debut memoir, Meet Me Tonight in Atlantic City, out now from Tin House (2023). She is also the author of two books of poetry: How to Not Be Afraid of Everything from Alice James (2021) and Overpour from Action Books (2016).
Yixuan Pan is from the land of fish and rice, where she grew up speaking Mandarin Chinese. Through sound and image, Pan likes to work with people. In recent years, her work has taken untraditional art forms, such as choral conducting, urban walking, window cleaning, love letter whispering, music therapy operating, and lollipop casting. Pan is the author of an artist book: It -A Skillful Amateur's Records on Glass. She also runs a podcast called Working Artist about artists and their day jobs. Currently, Pan is an assistant professor in art at the University of Washington. She wants to be a cook when she grows up.
Shin Yu Pai was Civic Poet of Seattle (2023-2024) and is the recipient of the 2024 Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America for poetic genius. She is the author of thirtheen books, including most recently No Neutral (Empty Bowl, 2023). Shin Yu is the writer, host, and producer of Ten Thousand Things – a chart-topping podcast on Asian American stories.
D.A. Navoti is a multidisciplinary storyteller, composer, and writer of the Gila River Indian Community. The author of essays and stories, his artistic work spans three landscapes — written, musical, and visual — a hybrid form exploring what it means to be Indigenous in the 21st century. Navoti was the 2023-24 Indigenous Community Liaison for 4Culture’s Poetry in Public program and was selected for Tin House’s 2024 Winter Online Workshop. Navoti served as the 2022-23 Native-Artist-in-Residence at Seattle Rep.
Molly Schaeffer works in writing and visual art. Her chapbook, STATE ZAP,* was published by MO(0)ON/IO in 2023. A graduate of Brown University's MFA in poetry, she was a Fellow at the Lighthouse Works on Fishers Island in 2023 and a finalist in BOMB Magazine's 2022 Poetry Contest. She teaches writing at Tacoma Community College and Pierce College; in the Summer @Brown Precollege Program at Brown University; and at Hugo House in Seattle. She lives in Tacoma, WA.
