In large-scale assemblages, Sung Eun Park explores the idea of a “good death.” Park juxtaposes objects — crossing geese, a suspended car, a projected painting – to create surreal theater-set-like works. The assemblages hint at a story interrupted –or one yet to finish or begin. The pieces invite the viewer to participate in completing the story, to contemplate their own departure.
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Park immigrated to the United States. She received her MFA at Indiana University and her BFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art. Park has exhibited her works nationally in California, Maryland, New York, Indiana and Oregon and internationally in Italy, France, Hungary and South Korea. She teaches at Western Oregon University and is a member of Well Well Projects.
