Overburden: Katie Miller
Overburden: Katie Miller
January 2024
Katie Miller inaugurated our 2024 series, Time is the Subject. Miller’s exhibition gently invites contemplation of the relationship between this perceiver and deep time, geological time. How can we – or can we – hold a vision of that relationship between our finite embodied perspective and this earth that exceeds us on such a vast scale?
Overburden investigates mining extraction processes and their socio-ecological impacts. In mining, overburden is the rock, soil, and vegetation above an orebody that is removed before mining takes place. It also references the current condition of many ecosystems and the strain that people, plants, and animals experience in the face of climate and environmental changes.
