Infusing reused textile into ceramics and tapesteries, Kate Rusek and Allyce Wood incorporate personal and cultural history into highly textured artwork. These textiles are rooted in place, personal and cultural history. Wood’s work draws on Scandinavian fiber traditions which have a strong influence in the Pacific Northwest. Rusek’s sculptures reference the landscape’s marine forms. The natural forms and cultural traditions of the Pacific Northwest influence their practices and products.

Based in Seattle, WA, Allyce Wood received her MFA from the Kunsthøgskolen I Oslo in Norway and furthered her textile studies at the Universitetet I Bergen. She received her BFA from Cornish College. Wood has been artist in residence at the Praxis Fiber Workshop, and the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós, Iceland. In her studio, Wood creates work on digital and analog looms, a marudai, and a knitting machine. To her, the loom acts as a mediator between traditional and computerized technologies, offering a unique way to balance coded systems with human impulse. Recent solo exhibitions appeared Gallery 4Culture and the White River Valley Museum. Her work has shown at institutions including the Tacoma Art Museum and MadArt in Seattle. Wood has produced public art projects with The City of Edmonds, the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, ando others. Her work is supported through institutions including 4Culture, Bildende Kunstneres Hjelpefond, Norway, Artist Trust, and the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.

Kate Rusek is a multi-disciplinary artist assembling highly tactile sculptures, textile, and installation. Her work transmutes wasting and waste matter into abundant, maximalist forms with dynamic biophilic textures. Rusek received B.F.As from The University of Miami and an M.A from Savannah College of Art and Design. She received residencies at The Archie Bray Foundation, Chulitna Lodge, and Vermont Studio Center among others. She was the Devra Freelander Fellow at Socrates Sculpture Park and the recipient of a Windgate Fellowship. She has built a career as a bespoke fine tailor and received a Daytime Emmy winner for her costume design on Sesame Street. She is on the staff of Saturday Night Live. This work informs her practice of research and craftsmanship. Exhibition venues include Shelter Gallery, Material for the Arts, Trotter and Scholer, Culture Object, Ki Smith Gallery, Geheim Gallery (Bellingham, WA), Koulva Sullivan (Spokane, WA), and The University of Montana. In 2025 she will present a solo exhibition at Southern Vermont Arts Center. Rusek splits her time between New York City and the Washington Coast.
